Infinite Journeys
My work ‘Infinite Journeys’ is inspired by Italo Calvino’s ‘Invisible Cities’ on many levels.
The tessellated collage is formed primarily from the patterned inside faces of recycled envelopes that have made the journeys to my home, carrying letters with correspondence from friends and strangers. They represent Marco Polo’s journeys as well as his conversations with Kublai Khan.Â
They are now devoid of physical content and weight: all that remains is the “tracery of pattern so subtleâ€â€¦ But they can be filled by whatever the imagination conjures up – like Calvino’s tale, or our own interpretations of art and the world around us.Â
40cm x 40cm, tessellated paper collage, sold box-framed with museum-standard, non-reflective glass.
